There is also a misconception that "Genuine Leather" is the desirable material. The truth is, this grade of leather is everything quality is not. See below leather grading for a leather crash course. The fact in the leather making is, all grades have their own pros and cons. They fit a different budget and use. At Zakkr we use the right grade of leather that best matches the product.

1. Full Grain - The top coat of the leather skin that has not been sanded or buffed. This is the highest quality grade that is durable and ages really well.
2. Top Grain - Also a top coat of the skin, but unlike full-grain that retains its natural elements, the top grain is usually sanded and colored to achieve a more uniform look and smooth feel.
3. Split Leather - The bottom layer of the skin after the top layer is split. This is also sanded and colored to achieve a uniform look and feel.
4. Genuine Leather - Think of particle boards used in Ikea furniture. This is economical and can be shaped into different thicknesses and embossed with patterns, but by no means, this is still high quality and as durable.
